The Nine Obstacles

The Nine Obstacles given in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra:

Vyadhi (disease, illness)

Styana (laziness, procrastination)

Samshaya (doubt, indecisive)

Pramada (careless attitude)

Alasya (spiritually and mentally inactive)

Avirati (craving, desire)

Bhranti-darshana (false perception)

Alabhdha-bhumikatva (fail to attain the goal)

Anavasthitatva (inability to maintain or instability)

Chitta-vikshepa (Mind diversions, distractions)

These nine obstacles also give rise to four more consequences

1.Physical and/or Mental pain
2.Sense of sadness or dejection
3.Anxiety and restlessness
4.Physical and mental issues caused by shallow or irregular breathing

Simple Solution to overcome these obstacles and resulting consequences:

Single pointed meditation (Ekagratha) on higher Self through
      Sadhana (spiritual practice),
      Viveka(discrimination), Vairagya (dispassion)
      Renunciation
